About Me
I am twenty-four five and a publicist for a large agency in New York City. I started this blog so that I’d have a place to talk about life and hope that someone would read it who besides my relatives. I’ve always been passionate about cooking, eating, food, talking about food, reading about food, talking about eating food….you get the idea. Here are a few more of the basics:
I like: magazines, especially those that are home, food or design related; Ice cream (chocolate chip cookie dough and anything eaten straight from the container are my favorite flavors); flip flops; soft blankets; heavy sweaters; Law & Order: SVU; the fall; Anything chocolate, as long as it’s not paired with peanut butter; yoga; indoor cycling; running; knitting, bad movies, good wine, laughter and good conversation.
I don’t like: fennel, sushi; people who save bikes in spin class and then neglect to show up; excuses; traffic; wearing stockings; The Bachelor; washing lettuce for salads (I do it, but that doesn’t mean I like to); people who use umbrellas in Manhattan when it’s only lightly raining; the subway.
About In Good Taste
I think that being young and single is no excuse not to eat good, healthy food. Living alone in your twenties doesn’t have to mean fast food and a fridge full of beer and ketchup. Cooking for one can be challenging, so on my blog I’ll share my experiences in cooking primarily for myself and shortcuts that I learn along the way that might make it easier for those of you out there seeking single-serve portions of some of your favorite meals – without the grocer’s freezer or a chinese takeout menu.
Cooking for a crowd? Sometimes I do (I have family members who were born without my kitchen gene and plenty of hungry friends). So for meals such as soups, stews and lasagnas that are more difficult to pare down, but can easily be frozen or repurposed into later meals, I post full recipes. I also have the baking bug and work plenty of breads, cookies and other baked goods into my rotation.
I do try to answer all of my comments, sometimes in the comments section on my post and sometimes via email. I love to hear what you have to say so keep ‘em coming!

I’m an advanced knitter too; I longingly page over patterns that make absolutely no sense to me, then happily return to my *K2 P2* repeat ** until……
Anyway, I do love your blog, your voice and your recipes. Your list of things you love mirrors so many of my own and I look forward to reading more.
Oh, and those mums? They’re one of the hardiest plants alive. Most people can’t kill ‘em if they try.

I loved your comment about the ‘kitchen gene”. But, seriously, you have try fennel again. It’s so good raw in a salad or as finger food.
Thanks for stopping by my blog today. I’m about to go poking around your posts now.

Your Bread looks great. Thanks for sharing! And you are correct just becuase you live alone doesn’t mean you have to eat from a box.

Let me be the second to ask: You really don’t like sushi? Maris, I feel led to tell you, as someone NEW to sushi love, there’s a whole world of different kinds that are quite delicious. I was a big fan of the Las Vegas roll, and I won’t hide it’s probably because of the deep-fried batter on the bottoms. We can still be food friends if you don’t change your mind, but I think you’ll be happier if you do.

Hi Maris. Love your blog! I am raising ducks right now in my backyard as I’ve heard their eggs are great for baking. I’ll be sure to follow you.

After you left a comment about my raw Cumin Carrot Salad on my website, I checked out your blog. It is very well-written, amusing, and inspiring. I am new to the whole blog thing and will check back often to see how it should be done. Your photos are lovely and professional. I just bought a Cloud Dome to shoot my food? – raw jules

Hello,
I have found you on WW website and decided to check out your blog. Fantastic! What shocked me, though, is that you and I have so much in common – and I was born on the other side of Atlantic – including your like and dislike for TV shows (don’t watch that much TV and yet…) and the peanut butter thing (hate). OK, all this said – you go girl! Your blog is fabulous and I appreciate your comments on WW as well.
Cheers,

Hahaha, I HATE washing lettuce too! Ugh! And why do salad spinners have to be so big and awkward? Love the blog!
